GCC delegations examine the Smart Travel system at Abu Dhabi International Airport

Delegations of Border Passports’ officials in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries reviewed the Smart Travel system currently applied at Abu Dhabi International Airport.

The GCC countries’ delegations visited the Abu Dhabi International Airport, where they were welcomed by Colonel Saeed Salem Balhas Al Shamesi, Deputy Director of the Border Passports’ Directorate general at the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi, along with Colonel Matar Ahmad Al Muhairi, Officer in charge of Abu Dhabi International Airport; Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Ahmed Al Hameli, Head of Air and Sea borders’ Passports Department, and a large number of officers at the airport.

Colonel Al Shamesi welcomed the visiting delegations in their second country the UAE and wished them the best of luck in their visit. He stressed on the importance of such visits to promote cooperation and exchange of expertise between passports and borders control officials and employees across GCC countries, as well as to peruse the latest security means used by the UAE at is different borders and ports, to ensure security and protection for its citizens and residents.

The visiting delegations were briefed about the Smart Travel system, which reduces queuing and accelerates the processing of travel procedures without the hassle of waiting endlessly in front of the counter, using modern interactive technologies. They also reviewed the main results achieved and benefits to passengers since its application.

Members of the delegations also watched a documentary presentation showcasing the development of the e-port system project, which includes several systems that provide safety and security and offer excellent services for travelers.

Then the delegations toured inside Abu Dhabi International Airport, where they were informed about the modern technologies used for the registration procedure in e-gates service, the key features and technologies applied in the airport facilities, in addition to the enforced security procedures to secure facilities, in line with the latest international specifications and standards.

The GCC delegations praised the development and progress levels reached by the United Arab Emirates in all security areas.

Brigadier General Abdul Rahman Saleh Al Sinan Al Dosari, Assistant Undersecretary for Ports, Research and Follow-up, Head of Delegation of the Kingdom of Bahrain, expressed his pride with the achievements made by the UAE, which is one of the leading countries in the world to employ technology for the service of citizens and residents. He also underlined the tremendous attention, care and unlimited support provide by Lt. General H.H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, to for security bodies; which represents a motivation and an incentive for them to promote security work.

In conclusion, Al Dosari stressed on the importance of strengthening relations and exchanging expertise between GCC countries to enhance cooperation. He also pointed out that the visit has achieved its objectives, mainly as to review the systems used to facilitate procedures for travelers.
