India’s KP Group to Invest INR 36,000 Crore in Botswana’s Renewable Energy Sector

(BUSINESS WIRE)--KP Group, a leading renewable energy company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Republic of Botswana to collaborate on large-scale renewable energy generation, energy storage, and transmission infrastructure. The partnership supports Botswana’s ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2030 and marks a significant milestone in KP Group’s international expansion.

The MoU follows the recent visit of the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, to Botswana, reflecting the strengthening bilateral cooperation between the two nations in clean energy development. The agreement was signed between Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy and KP Group, comprising KPI Green Energy Limited, KP Energy Limited, and KP Green Engineering Limited.

Under the agreement, KP Group and the Government of Botswana will jointly develop renewable energy and allied infrastructure projects involving an estimated capital investment of USD 4 billion (INR 36,000 crore). These projects are expected to add nearly 5 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity. The collaboration also includes the development and strengthening of high-voltage transmission infrastructure within Botswana, along with regional interconnections to enhance power reliability and energy security.

As part of the partnership, KP Group will offer 30 scholarships annually to citizens of Botswana to pursue education and skill development in renewable energy, engineering, sustainability, and allied fields. This initiative aims to build local capabilities, encourage knowledge transfer, and support long-term workforce development in the clean energy sector.

The MoU signing coincided with another key milestone for the Group, as Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Shri Harsh Sanghavi virtually inaugurated KP Green Engineering’s state-of-the-art fabrication and galvanising facility at Matar. The latest facility adds over 2.94 lakh metric tonnes of annual production capacity, significantly strengthening KP Green Engineering’s manufacturing capabilities for large-scale renewable energy and transmission projects.

Commenting on the collaboration, Hon. Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, Minister of Minerals and Energy, said the partnership would accelerate clean energy deployment while delivering long-term economic and environmental benefits. Dr. Faruk G.
